OUR STORY
The Sweet Story of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
In 1981, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory was born.
What began as a single shop on Durango’s historic Main Street quickly became a destination — where the sights, smells, and sounds of hand-dipped chocolates and caramel apples filled the air.
As visitors from around the world came to experience the magic, the brand grew into a 53,000-square-foot factory supporting hundreds of stores across the U.S. and beyond. Today, over 40 years later, our Durango roots still shape who we are — defined by craftsmanship, community, and the joy of creating something worth savoring.
Why Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory?
Crafted to Delight, Built to Last
For decades, we’ve been America’s Chocolatier — handcrafting chocolate and caramel creations that turn everyday moments into something extraordinary.
Every Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory store is a sensory experience — from the aroma of warm caramel to the mesmerizing sight of chocolatiers crafting fudge and apples by hand. Our stores invite guests to slow down, connect, and indulge.
Each store is designed with intention — a warm, welcoming space that reflects both craftsmanship and modern hospitality. Together, we transform indulgence into an art form and create what we call Rocky Mountain Moments.

Yes! There are often opportunities to purchase existing stores. If an RMCF franchise has been identified for sale, all negotiations will take place between the buyer and seller. “The first years owning the business had been so wonderful for our family, that when my Dad retired 6 years later, we didn't hesitate to buy his location. Two years after that, the previous Miramar Beach, Florida owner asked us to buy his store. After visiting the store, and analyzing and reanalyzing the financials, we decided to add a third location to our family of RMCFs. There are hard days, frustrating days and bad days, but most days are exciting, challenging, and good. We truly love this business.”
